Too smart

Kaia just keeps amazing us more and more every day. At this point she has over 100 words between her signs and her spoken words. I get comments from moms all of the time about how amazed they are at the clarity and variety of her words. Today we were at the beach and there was a helicopter pretty far away. She looked up and said helo. She is her father's daughter:)

We have been trying to spend as much time outside and at the beach as we can. We did have to ban her from the beach for a number of days because she got too much sand in her swim diaper and and made her skin VERY raw. She is almost back to normal so we got to go back to the beach today. We also bought her a swim jumper that is longer than a bathing suit. It was incredible how little sand that it allowed in.

Bryn has gone back to school. It has been hard on both of them. Some days he leaves the house without getting to see her (we have been very spoiled and know it). Kaia asks for Bryn more and more and has now gotten to the point that when Bryn walks out of the room she says bye bye daddy.

We did get back to going to play group this week and came home to a great surprise. Bryn had put together the Little Tikes playground set that Grandma and Grandpa bought for her first birthday. We have had problems with the usability of our outdoor space and always have walked to the park if we were going to play outside. This new set allows us to just go outside the house and play for a short period of time. It has been soooooooo great!!! Our next house will definitely have a usable yard. No matter where we are outside (house, park, beach, etc) Kaia's favorite things are rocks and sticks. She just collects them and carries fist fulls of carefully stacked treasures.

We did have a rough spell a week of so ago when Kaia cut her first tooth on top. I know some kids her age that are working on cutting their molars, but she just has 3 teeth so far. The second tooth on top isn't far behind.

Kaia has also been working on her drawing skills with a present she got for her birthday. It is an aqua doodle. It is a special mat that you use a pen filled with water on and the reaction of the water on the mat causes "ink" to temporarily appear. It is great because when she is walking around with the pen it is just water and won't do any harm to anything.

She has become such a big girl with her complex comprehension. We can ask her to do complex tasks and she does.

Kaia has some other big girl things around. She got a great Little Tikes picnic table from my sister. We set it up on our porch and she has gotten really good at climbing onto and off of the bench. We also bought her a kid sized "arm chair" from Pottery Barn Kids. She knows how to climb up into it and turn around and sit down. She doesn't understand that she can hang out on these pieces once she is there and will climb right off.

Bryn and I got another date night to the thanks of our great babysitter who can handle Kaia crying. This last time we left she finally connected that when Tiesha comes over, we leave. I wasn't looking forward to that. Eventually she got her calmed down and got her to sleep without a problem. It is so nice to go out every once in awhile without chasing someone:)

Hey Alayna. I've read the most recent posts and am so amazed at Kaia's communication skills. 100 words! Wow. That's great. Sounds like you're doing well. I hope we can all meet up soon. Sorry we didn't get a chance to connect when you were in the city earlier in the summer. Next time! Eleanor would love to meet Kaia and would say Hi with equal exuberance and probably sneak in a hug or two. All the best on your move to DC.
