Alayna

Time to update you all on the week in the life of Kaia...

On Friday we went to Children's Hospital for an ultrasound of Kaia's hips. They just wanted to make sure that everything was formed correctly although she was breech. We just got the results yesterday and everything is normal. I had to hold her for the ultrasound and that meant that Bryn had to hold her for our big day yesterday (more to come below). That night we took her out to sushi. We made sure Kazumi knew she would be eating at the bar with us next year.

This past weekend Kaia got to experience Sea World for the first time. I'm pretty sure that Bryn and I were more excited to get there than Kaia. She got to see sharks, dolphins, seals, sea lions and all kinds of other things. That is when she wasn't covered up. Sea World doesn't offer a lot of shade so she was kept hidden a lot of the time.

We have taken a number of walks this week. One day Kaia and I walked up to Trolley Barn Park and hung out playing for a bit on a towel under the shade of a large tree. It was great watching her face when a big breeze came through. After she passed out then I continued the walk. We also met Sara and Claire and walked down by the harbor another day. I have still been making it to dance class and to the gym when Bryn and I can juggle schedules.

Yesterday Kaia had her two month check up. The doctor was very impressed that Kaia is rolling from tummy to back and commented on how strong she is. She is growing like a champ and weighed in at 9 pounds 13 ounces. That means she has been gaining more than 1 ounce a day since her last check up. Her length has increased quite a bit too. She is 22 1/4 inches now. Two month check ups also mean LOTS of shots. She got two shots in each leg (one of the shots had two vaccines) and an oral dose. She screamed so loud that I was glad that I didn't have to hold her. We gave her baby tylenol before the shots and again 4 hours later. She has done pretty well today, but has definitely been a little crankier and warm.

Today Grandma came down just for the day. She brought down an adorable pair of handkerchief pants that she made and some cute shirts that Aunt Danja made. We are going to wear the outfit tomorrow and take a picture. We went to Marissa's for an appointment. We hadn't seen her for about 3 weeks because she was out of town. She was amazed at how much Kaia had grown. The first time she worked on Kaia she was only 5 hours old.

That is about it for now. Oh, Kaia did learn one other trick this week. We are taking nightly baths to try to set up a routine. She sleeps through the night like a champ, but she doesn't like to go to bed until about midnight. We are trying to change that, but Kaia doesn't agree that that is necessary. Anyway, during bath time Bryn started teaching her to kick and splash water. Now we just have to say, "Kick, kick, kick" (very inventive I know) and she will start kicking. She is good at splashing water outside of the tub.
