Well, the lag in blogging tells you a little about what has been going on here. Last I wrote, Kaia was getting her first cold. Unfortunately, it turned into a little more than a cold. The 18th and 19th Kaia's cough was rattling terribly in her chest. We elevated the head of her mattress, took her into the bathroom to steam it out, and many other such things. On the morning of the 20th she woke up with wheezing so we headed out immediately for the hospital. After some tests and a chest x-ray, she was diagnosed with bronchialitis. We came home with an inhaler for her to take 4 times a day. We thought sleeping was bad before, but we were wrong:) She is fine now, but it was a long couple of weeks. She would cough so much that we held her for her naps so we could put her back to sleep once she woke herself up with coughing. Needless to say, she wasn't really herself for awhile. Of course Bryn got the same bug and they both tried to get me sick. I have been fighting it since the middle of January, but have not yet succumbed to the sickness.
On January 24th my grandma and mom came for a visit. We kept it really low key for Kaia and didn't really go out a lot. This was the first time that they had gotten to meet Kaia. Luckily, Kaia was a little more herself on their last day. My grandma commented on how good Kaia had been and I had to explain that what she was seeing was Kaia's normal. We did managed to take some pictures of all four generations, something I remember doing with my great-grandma.
This past week we were back on track and going to all of our events. Kaia had her third cranial osteopath session and Bryn got to come for the first time. He also got to come to music class for his birthday! Not the rip roaring crazy birthday, but the birthday to be had by those with babies:) We did get out for an early dinner and had ice cream cake waiting at home.
We have had a couple of exciting firsts the last couple of days. Bryn and I had started doing some signs with Kaia at home before she and I started the baby sign class. We have had 3 classes so far. The last class I told the instructor that Kaia had started motioning her version of up. I didn't know if it counted since lots of kids that don't do sign learn to gesture for up. She told me that it counted as Kaia's first sign. She has been doing that for about 2 weeks. Suddenly yesterday and today Kaia has done a number of other signs. Maybe she has been doing them and we hadn't noticed, but I don't think so. She now signs for milk, all done, up and light. She has recognized our signs for awhile now and reacts to them, but we hadn't seen them back yet. When were at music class on Friday she did her sign for all done and turned around to face me and signed milk. I was so excited and immediately fed her.
Bryn is busy with school and had been powering through a number of papers that he has due. I am trying desperately not to get sick and taking care of Kaia. Right now I just have one client that I see a couple of times a week.
I am off to sleep (as long as Kaia lets me).
